Alzheimer’s
is a progressive, neuro-degenerative disease characterized by memory
loss, language
deterioration, impaired
visuo-spatial skills, poor judgment, indifferent attitude, but
preserved motor function. Alzheimer’s disease usually begins
after age 65, however, its onset may occur as early as age 40,
appearing first as memory decline and, over several years, destroying
cognition, personality and the ability to function. Confusion and
restlessness may also occur. The type, severity, sequence and progression
of mental changes vary widely.

We are now in the process of completing the final phase of our
continuum care, a 33 – Unit St. Benedict Menni Alzheimer’s
facility.
This two-story special care building is designed to assist residents
with short-term memory loss who are still ambulatory. The resident
apartments open to an activity and lounge area, and a walking path
weaves in and out of the specialty rooms that include a uniquely
designed library, a twelve foot ocean fish tank, a country kitchen,
crafts room, garden and fountain.
The Library and Media room is specially designed with these seniors
in mind, with fireplace and sitting area, comfortable chairs for
large screen wall TV, and tilted book shelves for easy access.
Programs:
The programs are individually tailored to each resident’s
abilities and interests, with creative touches such as beauty time,
art projects, and massage & music moments.
Residents are encouraged to participate in all of the normal routines,
as in their home, and are engaged by our staff to participate in
a broad range of activities throughout the day.
